Three books in which I look back on a difficult period for our family. One book is for my parents, one is for my brother and one is for myself. The books are written in letter format with a typewriter. They have a ceramic book cover and the pages are made of self-made paper.
The project Who is Themis? started off with a picture I took of a statue in Prague. The statue is from Themis, a Greek goddess of justice. In my project, I wanted to give women the space to tell their stories of injustice.
The project Avec Toi was at Amuse van Hier tot Ginder in Okkenbroek on the 4th and 5th of September. The project exists of three sculptures that were spread out and hidden over the location. The project focusses on the interaction between two people who love each other. How they support or protect each other, how they share things with each other and how they embrace each other.
By using the principles of a camera obscura, you’re able to make your own pinhole camera. I made two pinhole cameras: one out of a soup can and one out of cardboard. With these cameras I started photographing, just going on walks and discovering elements in my surroundings.
A collaboration with Andra Stoica for Supra-load, an exhibition in Sickhouse. We made three puppets out of burlap sacks and candle wax. The light inside them form a heartbeat which will increase in speed as you come closer. A quite incomprehensible conversation between two puppets is playing in the background.
For two weeks I walked around with a camera to capture my day, like a diary. While doing this I practised the way I saw: what do I see, what is an interesting composition? I ended up with a large archive of pictures without much context.
“A weak shape that’s hanging from a surface, barely touching the ground.” For this assignment, I chose light as a ‘weak shape’. I started off with a desk lamp and a metal circle which blocks the light from touching the ground. This sculpture was the start of a chain of sculptures, each reacting on the previous one.
